Turkish Nazar Restaurant in Osaka

Almost any kind of food can be found in Osaka. Turkish dishes are not exemptions either. The place on the pictures is in the Shinsaibashi ( 心斎橋 ) district of Osaka. Usually there is a huge Turkish flag hanging outside and you need to go upstairs to get to the restaurant itself. It is not difficult to locate the place. For convenience I have included a map below.

Kobe harbor

The best view can be enjoyed from two places in Kobe. From Mnt. Rokko and from Kobe Harbor. The harbor is the greatest in Japan. We can easily get here if we get of the JR line at Motomachi (元町)station and keep walking straight. It should not take more then 20 minutes.


The best is to arrive here in late afternoon hours and walk up the Kobe Tower. It is open until 9pm. ...

Mount Rokko a few weeks before momiji

If you take the cable car up to the top of the local mountain you can enjoy a fabulous view. The spot was named in 1985 May 25 after the emperor Showa has visited the place.


It has become a part of the Japanese heritage of night views in July 2004. I have taken the pictures in October 2015 the few weeks before momiji which is the period when the leaves get yellow and brown. The weather in October in the Kansai area is a little bit chilly but not too cold to take a trip to the mountains. When we exit the cable car we have a lot of choices to go to. Mnt Rokko (931 meters) is the highest peak in the Rokko mountain range, which provides the pleasant green backdrop to the city of Kobe.

What is takoyaki and how it is made in Osaka

Osaka people are very proud of their snack-like traditional food called "takoyaki". The word itself has been derived from the Japanese tako ( タコ、蛸 ) , which means octopus and the word yaku ( やく、焼く ) , which means to fry or grill.


You can find it at many places of the city, and serves as a great Japanese fast food. Takoyaki is basically a ball shaped flour and wheat based batter stuffed with tiny octopus. The enhance the flavor usually fine cut onion, mayonnaise, takoyaki sauce ( similar to Worcestershire sauce) and pickled ginger is added on the top. It is cooked in a special takoyaki frying pan that has ball shaped holes and the chef rotates them with metal sticks.
